So sorry to hear of the passing of our cousin, Lewis. This is Jimmie Walker (and Susan) and Marie Walker Brockett. Jimmie and Susan, of Watseka IL, are currently wintering in Florida. Marie, of near Norris City IL, is 190 miles from Waveland. Sadly, neither of us are able to attend services due to distance and an expected Southern Illinois ice storm.
Lewis was one of 7 first cousins from the three surviving children of James Bert Smith and Bernice Rinard Smith. Preceding him in death were Alice Walker Horton and Paul Smith. Surviving are Wayne Smith, Joy May Smith Chandler, Marie Walker Brockett, and James Alva “Jimmie” Walker.
We both have fond memories of Lewis, who was a kind a gentle soul. Personally, I fought a lot of bad guys using toy cowboy guns along side Dale, Bryan, and Howard as we walked the ditch west of the house of their grandparents, Rude and Nellie Smith. If we were acting decently, Elsie might even talk to us (she was “older” you see – and a “girl”). As a teenager, my first motorcycle ride was with Dale on his Honda 50!
May God’s grace comfort you all as you celebrate the long life of Lewis.
